We have all had days we woke up in the morning and knew we needed a break. Running late, arguing with a loved one, these events can be routine but when packed into the stress of the pandemic and political stressors can be the last straw. What can we do?
Take a mental health day. in fact, many employers are starting to have more acceptance and understanding around needing a mental health day.
If you use your time wisely, you may end up feeling better at the end of your day. Here are some tips for making the most of it.
Prepare for sleep by practicing good sleep hygiene.
Eat regular meals and eat healthy foods.
Get 30 minutes of exercise (check with your doctor first to make sure you are healthy enough for activity).
Make a list of the things you like about yourself and are proud of.
Avoid alcohol and other drugs
You have taken the first step in taking care of yourself by taking a mental health day. Make the most of it and do some things for yourself while you have the time. If you can’t bring yourself to do any of these things, that’s ok too. The fact that you took some time for yourself today has the potential to make a difference.
